Hot Air Balloon Cairns operates early-morning balloon flights every day over the Atherton Tablelands, launching near Mareeba. The FAQ says the minimum age to fly is 3 years, children aged 3 to 5 may need proof of age, and all children under 17 must travel with an adult. Most flights last 39 to 65 minutes. The Classic ride includes coach transfers from most hotels between South Cairns and Palm Cove (not private addresses), with Cairns CBD pick-ups around 3.50am to 4.30am depending on season and return about 9.30am; the Self Drive option meets at the Mareeba Heritage Centre. As of October 2026 the Classic ride with transfers is listed at $495 per person and the Self Drive flight at $450; no separate child fare is shown. Wear sturdy shoes, layers, a hat and sunglasses.
