Last updated October 2026

Guided tours of Australia's largest dolomite tourist cave and a 28-degree thermal spring pool, south of Hobart.

Hastings Caves State Reserve, about 1 hour 45 minutes south of Hobart, has guided tours of Newdegate Cave, the largest dolomite tourist cave in Australia, plus a swimming pool fed by thermal springs that stays at 28 degrees all year. Cave tours take about 45 minutes, include about 500 stairs and are limited to 20 people. Tickets are sold at the visitor centre on the day, first in first served; arrive 45 minutes early, as the cave is a further 5 km drive and a short walk away. As of October 2026 cave tours cost $32 for adults, $16 for children 5-17, $80 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children), and are free for under 5s; the tour includes the thermal pool. Pool-only entry is $8 adults, $5 children 5-17 and $25 family. From 10 February to 24 December the visitor centre and pool are open 10am-4pm, with tours at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. There are barbecues, picnic areas and a short wheelchair-friendly Platypus walk. No parks pass is needed.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
