Coastrider Surf Academy, based at 461 Clifton Beach Road, Clifton Beach, runs surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons in southern Tasmania, mainly for beginner to intermediate surfers. Its NRMA SurfGroms program teaches children aged 5 to 12 to surf along with ocean awareness and beach safety, working through skill levels recorded in a logbook; programs start from $155. Group lessons run for 2 hours and start from $59, private lessons from $89 an hour, and SUP lessons from $95, as of October 2026. Wetsuits, rash shirts and soft surfboards are supplied; bring swimmers, a towel, water, sunscreen and warm clothing. Lessons are not cancelled for rain or cold unless conditions are unsafe. Book and pay online through the website. Coastrider also runs programs on the North and North West coasts.
