A beach day in Sydney with kids
This is a beach day on Sydney's northern beaches, using three free, lifeguard-patrolled beaches: Manly Beach, Queenscliff Beach and Freshwater Beach. They are 10.8 to 12.2 km from the city centre, so this is a trip out of the centre rather than a city stop. Queenscliff is the northern end of the Manly surf beach, and a headland tunnel connects it by the rocks to Freshwater.
Pick one beach as your base and walk to the next if the kids have energy. Queenscliff is within a 10-minute walk of Manly Wharf. Pack hats, swimmers and a towel for each child, and always swim between the flags. Patrol seasons differ from beach to beach, so check the dates below and the council page before you go.
Every stop is a listing on Funtivities, checked against the place's own website. Last reviewed 24 October 2026. Prices and hours can change, so check the listing before you go.
