Muddy's Playground is a council-run splash playground and parkland on the Cairns Esplanade. Cairns Regional Council describes it as a modern, fun, safe playground combining active, interactive and educational play equipment, including water play areas, a flying fox, sound chimes, a rope bridge, slides, a mouse wheel, play houses, a see-saw, a trick track and puzzle games. An all-abilities Liberty Swing uses the MLAK key system; ask at Muddy's Cafe for access. Entry is free. It is open every day from 9am to 7pm, including public holidays, although sections are closed for maintenance on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings until noon (as of October 2026). Amenities include public toilets, BBQs and picnic tables, a cafe, a free public car park and on-street parking. Council rules: children must be supervised by an adult at all times, no running in the splash areas, and no skateboards, roller blades or bikes.
