Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden
Last updated October 2026
Victoria's cool-climate botanic garden (formerly the National Rhododendron Garden), set over 50 hectares with views over the Yarra Valley. A 3.5 km paved main circuit passes a pond and ornamental lake, with more than 15,000 rhododendrons, 12,000 azaleas, 3,000 camellias and 250,000 daffodils; spring is the peak flowering season and autumn brings colourful foliage. It also has a recreation of the Chelsea Flower Show-winning Australian Garden and a Cloud Forest conservation garden. An open-air people mover offers a 25-minute guided ride (fee applies). The terrain is hilly with some steep paths, so unassisted wheelchair access is not recommended; children must be closely supervised near the lakes. No pets, bikes or scooters. Open daily 10am-4:30pm (last entry); closed Christmas Day and on Extreme Fire Danger days. Garden Cafe Olinda opens on weekends.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
