Cowes Main Beach

Last updated October 2026

The Cowes Main Beaches on Phillip Island are golden, sheltered, sandy Western Port beaches with low winds and gentle waves, which Bass Coast Shire says makes them popular with families. The beaches offer excellent swimming at high tide, and low tide exposes shallow rocks and tidal flats to explore. Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrols Cowes beach between the jetty and Mussel Rocks from 26 December to 28 January, when the red and yellow flags are up. Amenities include toilets (with an accessible toilet), change rooms and cold-water outdoor showers. The jetty is used for fishing and ferries. Nearby (OpenStreetMap): The Jetty (cafe, about 70 m), Isola Di Capri (restaurant, about 80 m), M & O (cafe, about 80 m) and Hotel Phillip Island (restaurant, about 80 m), plus several more places to eat.
