Barangaroo Reserve
Families' Pick 2026 · Sydney: picked by the Funtivities team as a standout for families in Sydney.
Last updated October 2026
Free 24-hour harbourside headland park in Barangaroo with lawns, native plants, picnic coves and a netted swimming spot at Marrinawi Cove.
Barangaroo Reserve is a 6-hectare harbourside park on a former container site at the northern end of Barangaroo, a few minutes from the CBD. It has rolling lawns, sandstone steps and coves, walking and cycling trails and 75,000 native trees and shrubs from 84 species, planted to look like the land before colonisation. Families can picnic in the shaded coves, look for the five carved rocks that unlock the Ngangamay short films about Barangaroo, the Eora woman the area is named after, and walk on along the Wulugul Walk. At the northern end, Marrinawi Cove has a netted harbour swimming enclosure with a shark net and a shower; it is not patrolled by lifeguards, and the rocks can be slippery with oysters and algae. Aboriginal cultural tours run in the reserve. The park is free and open 24 hours. Toilets are at the former Sewerage Pump House near the Towns Place entrance. Barangaroo metro station, Wynyard Station and Barangaroo Wharf are close by, and there is Wilson parking under the reserve.
