Arakan Martial Art

Families' Pick 2026 · Gold Coast: picked by the Funtivities team as a standout for families in Gold Coast.

Last updated October 2026

Self-defence martial art for kids and teens with private lessons across the Gold Coast, based in Varsity Lakes; free first lesson.

Arakan Martial Art is a self-defence system based on a Burmese martial art, and the Gold Coast is home to its first Australian school, with a head office at 5/175 Varsity Parade, Varsity Lakes. Its juniors program teaches children self-defence skills aimed at bullying, stranger danger and anti-abduction situations, along with confidence, focus and discipline. Instructors hold Working With Children cards, and the kids' site says instructors have experience teaching children with ADHD and autism. On the Gold Coast, every new student starts with a one-on-one private lesson, and private lessons run seven days a week across Varsity Lakes, Robina, Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, Southport and nearby suburbs, with male and female instructors. Small junior group classes supplement private lessons. Prices are not published on the website. Families register online for a complimentary first private lesson and group class.
