Trail head and car park for the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park on McGregor Road, Smithfield, with access to the easy-graded trails; open 24 hours.

The McGregor Road entrance is the primary entrance to Smithfield Conservation Park and the only one with a car park. From Cairns it is about 16km north on the Captain Cook Highway; turn left at the McGregor Road roundabout near James Cook University and drive 1km past the university to the car park. This entrance gives access to the start of the easy mountain-bike trails. The Cairns Mountain Bike Club maintains the shared cross-country and downhill trails, which range from easy to extreme; the club grades its easiest trails for beginners with basic mountain bike skills. The park is open 24 hours, though riding at night is not recommended, and no entry fee is listed for individual riders (as of October 2026). Riders are asked to wear an Australian Standards helmet, gloves and glasses, stay on formed trails and keep off them after heavy rain. Rubbish bins are not provided.
