May Drive Parkland (The Dinosaur Playground)

Last updated September 2026

May Drive Parkland on the western side of Kings Park is known as "The Dinosaur Playground" for its climbable sculptures of dinosaurs and extinct Australian megafauna. There's also a 75-metre elevated walkway, an island fort and an interactive water-misting forest, all around a lake. Kings Park recommends it for children seven and older, largely because the lake is the centrepiece, so keep a close eye on little ones. Free electric barbecues and big lawns make it an easy picnic spot, and Zamia Cafe overlooks the lake, serving breakfast and lunch every day. Good to Know Get in via Saw Avenue or Poole Avenue. Entry is free. Outdoor cinema runs here in summer.
