Banksia and Melaleuca Bicentennial bushwalks, Bribie Island

Last updated October 2026

Two linked easy bushwalks in Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area, 65 km north of Brisbane. From the community arts centre car park on Sunderland Drive, a 300 m path through rainforest leads to a waterhole and the start of the Banksia Bicentennial bushwalk (500 m one way, about 15 minutes, graded easy) through wallum heath with grass trees and banksias. It joins the Melaleuca Bicentennial bushwalk (1.5 km return, allow 1.25 hours, graded easy) through paperbark wetland and bloodwood forest. Look for scarlet honeyeaters, lorikeets, eastern grey kangaroos, lace monitors and dozing koalas. There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities, and the walks are open 24 hours.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
