Morialta Conservation Park
Last updated February 2026
Morialta Conservation Park is a 533-hectare nature reserve in the Adelaide Hills, famous for its spectacular gorge and three-tiered waterfall system. Located just 10 kilometers northeast of Adelaide's city center, the park offers several walking trails ranging from easy family strolls to more challenging hikes through native bushland. The highlight for many families is the walk to the First Falls, which provides stunning views of the 30-meter waterfall cascading into a rocky pool below. The park is home to over 165 bird species and native wildlife including echidnas, kangaroos, and various reptiles that kids often spot along the trails. **What to Bring** Sturdy walking shoes with good grip. Sun hat and sunscreen. Plenty of water for the family. Camera for waterfall photos. Light snacks or picnic lunch. **Best Age Range** Best suited for children 5 years and older who can manage moderate walking on uneven terrain. The main waterfall walk involves some steep sections and rocky paths that younger children may find challenging. **Good to Know** Free entry and parking available at the main entrance. No bookings required. Basic toilet facilities near the car park but no café or kiosk on site. Trails can be slippery after rain so check conditions before visiting. Park gates close at sunset. **Nearby** Norton Summit Road offers several wineries with family-friendly grounds within a 10-minute drive. Gorge Wildlife Park is about 15 minutes away and makes an excellent combination for a full day out. **Tips From Other Parents** Start early in summer as the exposed sections get very hot by midday. The First Falls walk takes about 45 minutes return with kids stopping for photos. Bring a small backpack as the trail has some hands-free climbing sections near the waterfall viewing area.
