Australian Parliament House

Last updated October 2026

Free-entry home of the federal Parliament, with a weekend and school holiday family tour for ages 6+ and a monthly sensory-friendly tour.

Australian Parliament House is the meeting place of the federal Parliament, and entry is free. Visitors can watch Question Time, see bills being debated, and look at historical treasures, architecture and art in its permanent and temporary exhibitions. For families, the How Parliament Works Family Tour is designed for school-aged children and their families and suits ages 6 and up: it visits the chambers and explains how laws are made. It runs at 11am on weekends and ACT school holidays, takes 45 minutes, bookings are essential, and two children go free with each adult ticket. A Sensory-Friendly Tour for all ages runs on the first Sunday of each month. Parliament House is open every day except Christmas Day, 9am to 5pm on non-sitting days and 8:30am to 6pm on sitting days, as of October 2026. All visitors go through airport-style security, so allow at least 15 minutes. There is a parents room with baby change on Level 1, a cafe, and an undercover car park that is free for the first hour.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
